Glistening in the Darkness
When I was invited to exhibit as the only woman in a Florida group show titled "The Big Fish", I knew I had better show up strong when I would be hanging with world renown maritime and big game fish painter Mr. Guy Harvey, underwater WWI plane wrecks master Randal Scott and contemporary island life painter Dan Mackin.
It was my mermaids, mermen, with a few underwater dolphin and whale paintings that attracted the invitation for me to swim with these big fish so I wanted to bring a fresh subject, perspective and complexity to the party. The Jellyfish series has intrigued me with the endless lighting options effecting the diversified translucent complexities of species structures. With such unearthly design and undulating movement patterns they provided a unique creative challenge. They were great fun in the studio so I expect them to show up in more underwater imagery.
